Some places never appear in your plans—not because they’re far, but because, when you’re unprepared, they call you back with something that feels like fate. For us, that place is Kyrgyzstan.
Bek’s story begins with leaving. A riding accident at age ten put him in a hospital bed for a year; while the mountain horses ran free, he relearned to walk, endured pain, and chased after missed lessons. After recovering, he wasn’t as free as before. Friends saw him differently, and he wondered if he’d ever return to being that running kid. So he chose the hardest language, the farthest road—a scholarship to Shanghai for six and a half years—a time of growth, and of escape.
